Christy L’Esperance - 91.9 Classical KC

"The Sonus Chamber Choir, under the inspired direction of Kolby Van Camp, delivers sensitive and moving performances of the highest quality. Their ethereal Kansas City premiere of Eric Whitacre and Charles Anthony Silvestri’s The Sacred Veil brought the audience on a journey through deeply personal human suffering to connection and peace."

Phil Anderson - Topeka Capital-Journal

"[Van Camp] has advanced into the upper echelon of male vocal performers in his age group — not just nationally, but internationally, as well."

KOLBY VAN CAMP is a dynamic musician, conductor, and composer, dedicated to creating transformative musical experiences through innovation and excellence. As the founder and artistic director of the Sonus Chamber Choir, Kolby leads a professional ensemble committed to elevating choral artistry through world-class recordings, thoughtful programming, and the commissioning of new works.

A Kansas native, Kolby holds undergraduate degrees in music education and music composition, and a master of science in mass communications from Kansas State University. Kolby has performed around the world as a soloist and a chorister, and has done extensive work as a professional recording artist, performing and recording with such ensembles as the Tallgrass Chamber Choir, KC VITAS, Blue Earth Camerata, the Jesse Kaiser Ensemble, the Minnesota Symphony, the Susanville Symphony, and others.

Kolby’s work as a composer emphasizes emotional clarity, lyricism, and a deep respect for tradition, all while wrapped into a distinctly post-minimal package. Kolby’s compositions for solo and chamber ensemble are published exclusively with MusicSpoke, and his electronic music can be found across a range of streaming services.

Across all of his roles, his artistry is defined by a commitment to musical integrity, expressive depth, commissioning new music, and a vision for expanding the reach and relevance of choral music today.
