OUR STORY

The vision

Sonus Chamber Choir was founded with a bold vision: to reimagine what a professional choral ensemble could be. Led by founder and artistic director Kolby Van Camp, Sonus was created to blend the beauty of traditional choral music with the energy of innovation — producing world-class recordings, commissioning new works, and fostering performances that move and inspire.

Making an entrance

In the summer of 2023, Sonus Chamber Choir made its debut with a powerful performance of The Sacred Veil by Eric Whitacre and Charles Anthony Silvestri. Presented with a hand-picked ensemble of professional singers, to a packed house in Kansas City, the concert captured the emotional depth and musical sensitivity that define the Sonus experience. A critical and administrative success, it marked not just our first public appearance, but the beginning of a bold journey to elevate, innovate, and inspire through choral music.

The long wait

After the success of the 2023 debut, unforeseen personal loss brought a sudden pause to the Sonus journey. While the passing of two individuals close to the heart of founder Kolby Van Camp was not directly tied to Sonus itself, the weight of that season led to a time of stillness and reflection. Out of that silence, a renewed sense of purpose emerged, reigniting the vision for Sonus with deeper clarity and passion.

In November of 2024, the project was reborn with new purpose and clarity. What began as a moment of grief evolved into a renewed commitment: to honor those we love, to embrace the beauty of the human voice, and to create something lasting. Since then, Sonus has reemerged with extraordinary momentum, carrying forward a vision that is more alive than ever.
