Sonus Chamber Choir was founded in 2023 by Kolby Van Camp. Our mission is to create transformative choral experiences through professional recording, innovative programming, and selective live performances.

Sonus will officially launch organizationally on July 1, 2025, after being under development since July, 2023. Our first concert season will be announced November 1, 2025. We are pleased to share that new recordings, premieres, concerts, and composer collaborations already underway.

Kolby Van Camp serves as the founder and artistic director of Sonus, leading the ensemble with a vision rooted in excellence, innovation, and a deep love for choral artistry. Supporting this mission is a robust executive team and board of directors, bringing decades of experience in arts leadership, music, administration, and public relations to the organization.

Sonus is headquartered in Topeka, Kansas, embracing both the state’s cultural roots and the broader global tradition of choral excellence. Our work proudly reflects the rich musical heritage of the Midwest.

Our mission is to elevate and innovate the art of choral music. We focus on professional recordings, thoughtful programming, and new music commissions that celebrate the beauty of the human voice.

Sonus typically features between 16 and 24 professional singers. Our flexible size allows us to maintain an intimate, resonant sound across a variety of musical styles.

Our primary focus is professional recording projects and the premiere of new choral works. We aim to blend the timeless beauty of traditional choral repertoire with the energy of today’s most exciting composers.

Sonus hosts an annual Call for Scores to discover and promote new choral music. We are also deeply committed to commissioning new works that celebrate culture, place, and community — especially with ties to Kansas.

Our debut recording, Sanctuary: Choral Music for Sacred Spaces, will be released during the 2026 season. It features sacred and reflective works designed to highlight the resonant beauty of the human voice in inspiring spaces.
